Quick Tips To Get That Fat Disappearing

I thought I would use this post to share some tips I found interesting. Things that I am going to make a habit, since they don't force me to change me overall diet! But they do help you shed some of those pounds! Don't worry...I won't give you the usual tips that you read on other sites. Well these you probably can read on other sites...but lets just say they aren't as common as most! So here you go:

Bitter Foods Help Lose Weight
Tip #1: MUNCH ON SOMETHING BITTER

Yes...its time to man up and sink your teeth into some disgusting bitter foods like kale, olives, mustard greens, radish etc. Either 'pretty' them up in an omelet or soup or just go hard-core and make a smoothie! But EAT THEM! Have it for 3 meals a day to start seeing some instant results. They help boost digestion, detoxify the liver and (for all you chocolate lovers out there...) they reduce sugar cravings!!

Tip #2: TAKE DEEPER BREATHES

I know what you’re thinking.... That sounds easy enough!! That is exactly what I thought - till I had a life changing realization that I have apparently been breathing wrong for 27 years!!!! How does one do that! But supposedly it’s pretty common. This article I found said that 9 out of 10 people breathe wrong! Why is this bad If I am still alive? Well...Oxygen burns fat. By breathing wrong you are cutting down your oxygen in-take to one-third. So when your body doesn't get oxygen, it cannot burn through the fat!!

So I will give you the quick test to see if you are breathing properly and then tell you how it can be worked into your weight loss plan!

Quick Test to see if you got the Basics Wrong: Put your hand on your chest, the other on your abdomen. Take a normal breath. If the chest hand goes up, you’re breathing wrong!

So I know 90% of you are in shock right now...but it’s fine. Never too late to learn! So here is how you do it right: The goal is take breaths into your abdomen. To practice this, lay on the flop with a book on your belly. While inhaling the book should rise and should come down when exhaling.

Now that you’re on the right track with your breathing - lets talk about what is going to make that ass and belly smaller. Apparently a good way to lose weight is to keep changing your breathing patterns. Total Beauty (the brilliant site where some of these tips come from) suggests a 1-4-2 regime. The article explains it very clearly so I am just going to quote:

'Breathe through your nose to whatever count is comfortable. Hold the breath inside your body for four times as long, and then exhale through your mouth for twice as long. So if you breathe in to the count of 4, lock it into your body for 16 (4x4) and exhale for 8 (4x2). Do 10 of these, twice a day."

Time to inhale and exhale ladies!

Say No to Salt!
Tip #3: CUT OUT THE SODIUM

For people looking to fit into your favorite dress this weekend which has gotten a wee bit tighter...try out this trick. Cutting out sodium from your diet helps reduce bloatiness and sheds all the water weight! Try not to consume more than 500mg of sodium everyday! So from today, go easy on the salt!

That's all from the Uncompromising Fatty today. Lets give a hand to Total Beauty for these awesome tips!

Too Busy For The Gym???

Murphy's law states (and this is a direct quote):

"When you decide that you are going to start going to the gym, that is when you will find yourself suddenly drowning in work"

Damn it Murphy's Law - Not really helping the situation here!!

So as you probably guessed, things have been a little crazy for me. Its the last 2 weeks of school and I am up to my neck in work with projects and finals so I have been lax about my gym routine. Well...lets be honest, my gym routine is kind of non-existent at the moment! I figured, Ill embrace my fat temporarily so I don't land up letting go of my GPA!! But that is the worst attitude!

Instead of not doing anything while you are waiting for things to calm down, how about a 10 minute in-home exercise routine? That is absolutely doable (no excuses ladies!). Find a set of exercises for parts of your body that you want to concentrate on, and till you have time to breathe again at least get those parts working!!

Hips, Butt & Thighs
(What I wouldn't do to look like that!)
At this point I think it is crucial that I share my body type. I am what I like to call a "Christmas Tree". As pretty as that sounds, what that essentially means is that I have a tiny upper body which keeps expanding the lower you go!! The gifts bestowed by my lovely indian genes!! *Sigh* (Love you mom!!). So my major issue parts are my hips, butt and thighs, and that is what I am going to work on for the next two weeks till the crazies die-down!! If you share the Xmas tree curse with me, check out free e-booklet on home exercises posted on FitWatch. Click here to visit the link.

If your body type represents any other festival or religious symbols, well thats what the all-knowing Google is for! So get off your busy ass and get at least 10 minutes of a concentrated work out in every day!!

The Big Plate Dilemma

The problem with US serving sizes is that usually they are too big for one person and two small to be shared by two!!

Yummy Pasta
Today I ordered a pesto based pasta with smoked salmon. (Before you judge – it was whole-wheat penne!). I thought that sounded healthy enough, as I don’t usually consume anything whole-wheat or smoked! After devouring three-fourths of my pasta, I had reached that satisfactory level where you are full but not overstuffed. That was the downfall of the ‘new healthy thinking me’.

I look down at my plate, and I have this small portion of food left. Too small to pack up and take away for the next meal but big enough to ensure I pop a button or two of my pants. So, what do I do?  Exactly what any other obedient child would… I decide that this is the right moment, for the first time in 27 years, to listen to what my mother dearest has been trying to teach me since I was 4: “Don’t waste food. Do you know how many people are starving around the world?” So the good girl that I am, I dig in and eat up!!!

Needless to say that didn’t end well. Although I didn’t pop any buttons, let’s just say I have a crease mark caused by the waistband of my jeans that will probably be imprinted on my body forever!!! My new physical scars have made me inclined to add another goal to my list. So here it is…

Controlled Portions
#5 Before I start inhaling my food, I will divide my food into 2 portions: one that should be consumed then and another that should be stored away for a future meal. Carrying this process out on 2 meals will leave me with enough left overs to cover a third meal. So not only am I eating controlled portions but I am also saving money!

Great advice for the healthy and the broke!!

That’s it from me for today! Cheers and keep listening to your mom!

Evil Hunger Inducing Machine

Good morning Sunshine!

So before I start, I thought I could do a quick review of how I fared on my 3 goals. So the answer is average. Breakfast – Check. Wine instead of Beer – Check. Going to the gym – Did not happen. O well…two out of three is not bad. Why hasn’t the gym happened? Well, it is the last couple of weeks of school and things have been a little crazy with projects and finals. Well that is not an excuse, BUT I feel that my current score is good enough for me to add 1 more goal to my list. So here goes…
Hunger Inducing Machine

#4: Ever notice how while eating in front of the TV, your meal stretches out to the length of the TV show your watching? Regardless of whether the show is 20 minutes or 45, when the heart-stopping climax for the episode comes around I still seem to be sitting there with food hanging out of my mouth. A disgusting visual, but is definitely true. My stomach seems to reconfigure itself to be full only when the show I am watching comes to an end. Unfortunately for me, most shows I watch are over the 40-minute mark!! So my 4th goal for the week is to stop this evil hunger-inducing machine from controlling how much food I consume! No more eating in front of the TV!! It is me against the machine and I shall prevail!!!

This moment of enlightenment comes after reading a co-bloggers detailed post about the same. Click here to check it out!

And if you are one of those that eat in front of the TV but still have some semblance of control over the quantity consumed – PLZ SHARE!!! I love my personal time with my TiVo and any advice that helps me mend my relationship with mans greatest creation will be welcomed with open arms. Till then its good bye TV during meal times!!

Cheers from the Uncompromising Fatty who is very much compromising!

Baby Steps

A Healthier Life
Everyone seems to have their on take on a ‘healthy lifestyle’. It’s very similar to religion: people have their own bounds as to what’s acceptable and what’s not.  AND only one in a thousand actually follow it to the T (or tee…whichever one it is). Just to warn you before hand - I am not that one in a thousand. I am a drinker and a foodie. And to top it off, I am astonishingly lazy!

I have never been much of a dieter. I love my food and alcohol way too much. So I have decided to try something different. Something I can actually stick to for longer than a week. Instead of cutting out complete food groups from my diet, I am going to cut out certain unhealthy activities. My goal is to get relatively healthier without drastically changing what I eat – and hopefully in turn I will be bestowed with the gift of a reduced waistline and a smaller butt.

I will start off this blog by stating 3 changes I want to make to my lifestyle this week. Every week that I actually achieve all 3 things listed below, I will add another activity to the list. I believe this will be a lot more effective in the long run as it is a change of lifestyle versus a short burst of anorexia.

So what are my targets for the week?

#1 Eat breakfast everyday (Yes, I am one of those that skips ‘the most important meal of the day’)
#2 Replace beer intake with red wine (Come on! Its a step in the right direction!)
#3 Work out for 45 minutes at least 3 times a week

I don’t think my body can handle anymore change than that for now!! I will let you know how it goes.

Cheers for now!
